BMW X7 iPerformance Concept gives a certain preview of how the upcoming production flagship SUV will look like with a hybrid powertrain

Right after the leaked images, BMW revealed information regarding the X7 iPerformance concept a few days ago and now it has made its public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. It previews the close-to-production forthcoming flagship SUV for next year that can seat six passengers.

Do not get carried over by the looks as the concept has a radical approach to interior design and packs latest technologies and high-quality materials on a simple yet elegant package. It is one of the highlights from the Munich-based manufacturer at its stand in the glamorous motoring show.

The road-going version could offer room for seven occupants for added convenience instead of six. On the outside, BMW has expressed its design language that will be applied to the new SUV lineup. It comes adorned with sleek headlamps, more pronounced larger signature kidney grille and a busy bumper section.

It measures 5,020 mm long, 2,020 mm wide, 1,800 mm tall and features a wheelbase of 3,010 mm. The proportions are substantially higher than the existing X5.

Powering the BMW X7 iPerformance concept is a plug-in hybrid powertrain. No exact specifications have been revealed by BMW but it might comprise of a TwinPower petrol engine that is claimed to provide a desirable driving range whilst running on the all-electric mode.

Internet reports suggest that the power unit will indeed be a small 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit already doing duties in the 740e xDrive iPerformance model. BMW invented the Sports Activity Vehicle segment with the first generation X5 way back in 1999 and according to Ian Robertson, Member of the BMW AG Management Board for Sales and Brand BMW, all the other X vehicles followed the original to break new records.

Unsurprisingly, the X7 continues to hold the torch for the German luxury manufacturer. The new concept though will look to blend the large sports activity vehicle with electrified drivetrain.
