The BMW R 1200 RS ConnectRide safety concept flaunts numerous features keeping safety in mind for the rider as well as the nearby people
BMW Motorrad has showcased a new prototype at the CMC conference. The concept goes by the name R 1200 RS ConnectRide and claims to take safety to a whole new level.
Most importantly, the new BMW R 1200 RS ConnectRide offers numerous features that put focus on preventing accidents between motorcycle and passenger cars. The concept also features crossing and left turn assistant. Also, people who do not follow proper traffic rules will receive warning via the Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication system.
In the conference, BMW Motorrad joined hands with Yamaha and Honda to illustrate the crowds safety systems for two-wheelers. Apart from the BMW R 1200 RS ConnectRide, two new prototypes that were based on the Honda Africa Twin and the Yamaha Tracer 900 were also displayed at the event, presenting similar technology.
The BMW R 1200 RS gets its power from a 1170cc engine that comes mated to a six-speed transmission system. The fuel injected motor is good for churning out respective power and torque outputs of 125 Bhp and 125 Nm.
The braking to the BMW R 1200 RS is done with the help of twin 320mm disc brakes upfront along with a single 276mm disc brake at the rear. The suspension system of this motorcycle comprises of inverted forks upfront along with an adjustable monoshock at the rear.
Regarding the new safety concept, Prof. Dr. Karl Viktor Schaller, BMW Motorrad CMC president states that the company’s aim is to promote the comprehensive use of cooperative safety systems for motorcycles at an early stage. This will not only exploit their full potential for enhancing safety but can also deliver riding pleasure. The top honcho further adds that this is the reason why he is insisting other manufacturers to join in.
The BMW R 1200 RS is currently priced in India at Rs. 15.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). We hope to see the safety prototype entering production soon.
