BMW Plans Big Product Offensive In India This Year; 12 New Models Launching

BMW has lined up an assortment of new launches for India in 2019 as it looks to topple Mercedes-Benz off its perch

BMW India is preparing to have an eventful 2019 with a slew of new launches planned. According to a recent report emerged on the internet, BMW will be introducing as much as twelve new products across different segments and price ranges to consolidate its position and to go on better on main rival Mercedes-Benz.

First up is the brand new flagship SUV scheduled for debut on January 31. Having been spied testing a few days ago ahead of the market entry, the BMW X7 has been well-received across the globe and is all set to make a big impact against Mercedes-Benz GLS, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 and Land Rover Discovery.

Another SUV waiting in the wings for mid-2019 launch is the BMW X4. With coupe-ish roofline, the X4 is positioned between the X3 and X5, and is currently in its second generation globally. The latest X4 was unveiled in February 2018 and shares plenty in common with the X3 by being based on the lightweight CLAR architecture.

The German luxury brand will also launch the M-spec X4 in India this year while the performance treatment will make its way to the popular X3 as well. The X4 will likely share 2.0-litre petrol and 3.0-litre diesel engines with the X3. BMW has been testing the new generation 3-Series on Indian roads and it is expected to debut around June or July.

The 2019 BMW 3-Series has bigger dimensions that the outgoing model with lower drag co-efficient of 0.26. The G20’s exterior has an evolutionary approach and is more dynamic than before while the revised cabin adorns repositioned 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The engine lineup will see performance hike in the new 3-Series. BMW will also bring in the new generation X5 with evolved design and more high-tech features this year. BMW could as well locally assemble the X6 in India as the X4, and it will take on Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Audi Q8 and Range Rover Velar.

BMW Z4 roadster, based on the Concept Z4, is among the launches set for this year. The 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine making 340 PS helps in achieving 0-96 kmph dash in just 4.4 seconds with optional M Sport pack on. The big daddy of them all, the range-topping 8-Series, with 600 PS maximum power from 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 is heading to our shores as well.
