BMW mocks Tesla in new TVCs for the 330e iPerformance plug in hybrid sedan with the Wait or drive’ campaign
Earlier it was Nissan with its unique advertisement for the Leaf. Now it’s the German luxury automaker BMW. Both the automakers unite in making fun of Tesla. BMW has mocked the American EV maker in its new campaign called ‘Wait or drive’. BMW clearly points out that Tesla Model is still one and half year away, while the Bavarian automaker already has the sporty all new 330e iPerformance plug in hybrid sedan in its stable.
Tesla unveiled its most affordable sedan earlier this year. But the Model 3 is still far away. That didn’t prevent the enthusiasts from booking the car though, as many people dreaming off to own an entry level luxury electric sedan. On the other hand the BMW has the all new stylish 330e sedan, which is not fully electric, but environment friendly with its plug in hybrid powertrain.
One of the TVC shows, a man waiting for his Tesla Model 3 constantly, staring at the bare parking spot where he wants the car to sit. Meanwhile his neighbors buy a 330e and drives away. In the second spot a lady walks past an empty parking space with Tesla Superchargers. Without stopping she went to her BMW 330e and drives away.
BMW already have a dedicated electric vehicle division called i. It has already manufactured the hatchback i3 and the electric supercar i8. Both these cars have garnered interest and admiration. Now the German company wants to take the offence to another level. This new spots are just a part of that.
The BMW 330e gets power from a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline four cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. The 2.0 litre engine churns out 180 hp of peak power, while the electric motor generates 87 hp. The electric motor gets power from a 7.6 kWh air cooled lithium ion battery. A ZF 8 speed automatic gearbox does the transmission duty in the car.
