BMW 3-Series sets fastest side wheelie record; stunt driver Vesa Kivimaki performed the stunt on a 330d at Seinajoki, Finland
A BMW 3-Series has been used to perform world’s fastest side wheelie. Stunt driver Vesa Kivimaki has performed the stunt with a BMW 330d at an airport runway in Seinajoki in Finland. To set this Guinness world record he drove the car at a speed of 186.269 kmph, and distance limit for this record was 100 meter. Side wheelies are something many stunt drivers perform, but at such speed this was pretty tough.
This record has been unbroken for last 19 years. Vesa Kivimaki has been driving since the age of six and as he said after successfully performing the stunt, he always dreamt to crack the side wheelie record for last 15 years. He broke the record of Goran Eliason, who set fastest side wheelie record in 1997 in a Volvo 850 Turbo. Goran reached highest speed of 181.244 kmph, which is around 5 kmph slower than Vesa’s record.
The particular BMW 3-Series was powered by a 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder turbo diesel engine, which is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine can churn out 255 hp of peak power and massive 560 Nm of peak torque delivered between 1,500 rpm and 3,000 rpm. The BMW 330d is capable to accelerate 0-100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds.
The BMW 3-Series is certainly a class leading car in terms of handling. It comes with great cornering ability, even when the car is pushed to its limits the cornering ability remains good. Though it is not known, which modifications the particular stunt BMW 3-Series went through, but surely it came with some modifications, which helped Vesa to drive on two wheels at such high speed.
BMW 3-Series is basically a luxury sedan meant for family. But this car was modified inside the cabin heavily. The interior has been ripped off its elements, and fitted with a roll-cage, sport seats etc which made it more performance-spec sedan.
