The BMW 2002 Hommage concept has been revealed at the Villa d’Este concours d’elegance in Italy much to the delight of the show-goers gathered. It is based on the production M2 model and pays tribute to the golden jubilee celebration of the legendary BMW 2002 Turbo.

The 02 range of models fuelled a successful era for the brand and the original compact coupe was one of the pioneer models that announced BMW’s potential in the international scenes. The 2002 was the first series production car in Europe with the turbo technology that set tone for the coupe to become a genuine sports car and in those times it was technologically advanced than many of its competitors.

The excessive bodywork in the front end accommodates for Shark Nose and to be aerodynamically effective, the Hommage concept has short overhangs for a streamlined shape, multiple air intakes for efficient cooling and flow optimisation besides spoilers keeping the car hug to the ground with more downforce.

Up front, the concept features carbon fibre strip around the shoulders that permits for upper section to be painted in matt and the lower section with gloss paintjob. The flared wheel arches, funky criss-cross 20-inch alloy wheel with dual colour design and golden brake calipers, distinctive creases and wider body kit make the concept appear like an aftermarket stunner.

BMW said the classifiable broad body extensions in the Hommage concept are a result of the original wider track appeal of the brilliant then racing-car-alike 2002 Turbo. As similar to the same, the M2-based concept comes equipped with single light unit on either side and turn indicators positioned just above the body kit. The makers of the Hommage concept said the mechanical information are hardly relevant as it’s been unveiled to purely celebrate the achievements of the Turbo’s past.
