Italian premium motorcycle manufacturer Benelli is changing their strategy to survive in the competitive two-wheeler market of India. The new strategies were made after they broke their ties with DSK group and partnered with Hyderabad-based Mahavir Group. A senior Benelli official said that the Indian two-wheeler market is one of the biggest markets of the world and this is an equally important market for them as well.
They have plans to continue to invest in India and will now be focusing on high localization and will be targeting high sales volume here.T hat said, they want to launch some mass markets products to match the overall requirements of Indian buyers. Until now they have covered only a small part of the market and that is why their shares were also limited.
However, now they are planning to expand their reach over some other segments as well. The Company has already announced that they will be launching a total of 12 new models here in the 300 to 600 cc category. While they will also be focusing on some lower segments as well including the 125-130 cc category.
The company is already in the process of setting up their new plant in Telangana. Thus, keeping the new segment and their new strategy in mind this is perhaps the high time that Benelli could introduce the BN 125 in India to compete with its rival the KTM Duke 125. For those of you who are unaware of the fact, KTM will be launching the entry-level Duke 125 soon and this is will be a performance oriented motorcycle and perhaps also the most expensive 125 cc motorcycle of India.
The BN125, on the other hand, is Benelli’s latest entry-level naked motorcycle which was unveiled at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. The BN 125 is powered by 125cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which produces about 11 bhp of peak power and 10 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The motorcycle uses a steel trellis frame which is identical to its bigger sibling the BN 251.
The motorcycles use a 35 mm upside down forks and adjustable monoshock suspension setup towards its rear. While it depends on 260mm disc with three-piston calipers towards the front and 240 mm disc towards the rear. The motorcycle misses out on ABS but it does get CBS combi-braking technology.
