Bajaj Auto witnessed a marginal increase in sales while others are facing a slump thanks to growth in Pulsar and Platina sales
Bajaj Pulsar, one of the most recognizable auto monikers in India, is witnessing a surge in the sales for the past few months. After posting a growth of 18 per cent in the April 2019 sales, Pulsar has again posted growth in May 2019, this time a staggering 63 per cent as compared to the same period last year.
Bajaj managed to sell 86,145 units in May 2019 as compared to 52,759 units in May 2018, making the Pulsar most sold Bajaj bike in India. This is a tremendous achievement considering two reasons – 1) The auto industry as a whole is going through a turbulent time and 2) Bajaj Pulsar is a 150 cc motorcycle, unlike the top sellers which are mostly scooters or 125 cc bikes.
Last month, 57,045 units were dispatched while in March 2019, over one lakh units of Pulsar were sold. Among the other top sold two-wheelers in India, Hero Splendor took the crown away with 2,67,450 units sold in May 2019. However, it witnessed a decline of 13 per cent on the MoM sales.
Next was Honda Activa with 2,18,734 units sold, a hefty 53 per cent dip in sales as compared to last year. On the third spot was another Hero – the HF Deluxe motorcycle with 1,83,255 units sold, followed by Honda CB Shine with 92,069 units.
On the fifth spot is the Bajaj Pulsar bike, which happens to be the most sold Bajaj 150 cc bike. The other bike in the top-selling category is the Bajaj Platina with 59,938 units. As a matter of fact, both the Bajaj bikes witnessed significant growth while all the top-selling bikes witnessed a decline in sales.
Bajaj first introduced the Pulsar brand back in 2001 and it has been 18 years for the Pulsar in the domestic market. The Pulsar is exported to many countries outside India too. Apart from the Pulsar 150, Bajaj also sells Pulsar 220F, RS200, and NS200.
