The upcoming 48 Volt platform will underpin electric scooters and mopeds from both KTM and Bajaj brands

It is not an unknown fact anymore that Bajaj Auto will introduce an electric two-wheeler soon in India. Until now we all thought that the electric vehicle will not be launched before the end of next year. However, according to the latest report, Bajaj Auto EV will be arriving earlier than we all expected.

The report stated that the new EV from Bajaj will be introduced in the financial year 2019-2020. Bajaj Auto’s, Executive Director, Mr. Rakesh Sharma said that Baja is developing a prototype and they will make an official announcement soon. The report also stated that Bajaj and KTM will jointly also develop a 48-volt electric two-wheeler platform that will underpin their future products.

The common 48 Volt electric two-wheeler platform jointly developed by Bajaj and KTM will underpin their future electric two-wheelers with powers ranging in between 3 to 10 kW. The report also stated that the production of these EV’s will commence from 2022 onward in Pune. The Bajaj official also stated that they are quite serious and interested in developing an electric vehicle for Indian buyers. There is no doubt in the fact that electric vehicles are the future of transportation.

That said, Bajaj Auto has already started testing their upcoming electric scooter on Indian road. The test mule of the upcoming scooter was spotted recently in full camouflage. The test mule did give us some hint that the upcoming scooter will feature a retro styling. However, expect it to pack plenty of modern and premium features as well.

The front profile of the retro-styled electric scooter will feature a Pentagon-shaped full LED headlamp while the front blinkers will be positioned on the front apron. The scooter will also feature an LED taillamp, digital instrument console, backlit switch gears and perhaps also a USB charger positioned under the seat.

The upcoming electric scooter will rely on a disc brake towards the front and drum brakes at the rear to bring it to a halt. Expect the upcoming electric scooter to also feature the combi-braking system as standard as well for the safety of the rider.
