Bajaj has shown their interest to enter the electric vehicle segment almost two years ago. For those of you who are still not aware, Bajaj will be launching new electric scooters under the Urbanite brand soon. The upcoming electric scooter was spied recently while testing. Although it was covered in heavy camouflage, it still gave us a lot to talk about.
Here is a few details that we know so far about the upcoming Bajaj Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.
1. Bajaj likely to use the Chetak nameplate for their new scooter
Bajaj to likely use their legendary ‘Chetak’ moniker for their upcoming electric scooter. The scooter also takes its styling inspiration from retro scooters of the late ’80s and ’90s era. Although the test mule was wrapped in heavy camouflage, the front profile featured a full LED headlamp while the rear looked a little bulky and could actually house the electric motor and battery. The scooter also featured LED taillamp at the rear. It depended on a disc brake at the front and drum brakes at the rear for stopping.
2. Will get plenty of modern features
Expect the upcoming electric scooter to host plenty of modern features. The Chetak electric scooter will feature a full LED headlamp and taillamp, full digital instrument cluster that will offer plenty of information to the rider. The instrument cluster will perhaps also get Bluetooth connectivity as well. There is also a fair chance that the scooter will also get different ride modes and GPS navigation.
3. Bosch will play a major role in the development of the scooter
According to reports, Bosch will play a major role in the development of the electric scooter. Bosch is lending their expertise in the development of the electric drivetrain and battery management. The electric scooter will likely be powered by a (BLDC) motor linked to a belt drive with a lithium-ion battery.
4. The scooter will receive a premium price tag
Although we are not exactly sure at this price point, expect the upcoming scooter to carry a price tag of Rs 1 Lakh.
5. Expect the upcoming scooter to be launched before 2020
Few recent online reports said that Bajaj will likely launch their new electric scooter before the year 2020. There is a fair chance that Bajaj will introduce the scooter during the festive season this year.
