Audi R&D Head to be suspended over dieselgate scandal; it has been the most shocking automotive cheating issue in the history

It was reported that, the emission cheating software instigating the Dieselgate scam was actually developed by Audi, not Volkswagen. Now, the Volkswagen AG is about to suspend Audi’s Research & Development head, and Audi board member Stefan Knirsch over the issue. Investigations show that, he knew about the emission cheating software fitted in the 3.0 litre TDI engine.

Stefan Knirsch has already been asked to clear his desk. While a large number of Volkswagen diesel powered cars were found to be selling with emission cheating software, some Audi, Skoda and Porsche cars were also found to be fitted with emission cheating software. The 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine from Audi is one of the affected engines, which has been termed as illegal in US.

The Dieselgate has been the most shocking automotive scandal in the history. The scandal came under light in US, when several VW developed TDI diesel engine was found with the emission cheating software. This software ensured that, the engine would emit 40% less than actual emission output in controlled lab test environments. Volkswagen knowing all the facts kept mum on the issue until the scam came under scanner.

After the Dieselgate found in US, several other countries across the world, started investigation against the German automaker group and its associates. It was found that, the Volkswagen and its associates like Audi, Skoda and Porsche were selling the affected engines in many countries. In India too Volkswagen, Skoda cars were found with the emission cheating software.

In the wake of Dieselgate, several top ranking officials of the German automaker were suspended. Among one of them was Ulrich Hackenberg, who was the top engineer at Audi and Volkswagen AG. The present Audi R&D head and Audi board member Stefan Knirsch replaced him after Hackenberg’s removal from his post.
