Audi A8 L Security launched in India at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo; priced at Rs. 9.15 crore
To rival against the Mercedes Maybach S600 Guard launched already in India, Audi revealed the A8 L Security at the ongoing 13th Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Said to be the most secured Audi ever, the Audi A8 L Security appeared on the global scenes at the Frankfurt Auto Show last year.
As like the S600 Guard, Audi’s armoured luxury limousine has been rated VR9, the highest order for defense vehicles that can hold out a belt-fed M60 machine gun’s ammunition.
Audi took the standard A8 L flagship luxury model and equipped it with aramide fabrics for body protection, special aluminium alloy, hot-formed steel armour and run-flat tyres to bring forth the ‘Security’ protection vehicle without compromising any luxury whilst complying with the standards of Explosive Resistance Vehicle.
The Ingolstadt-based auto maker manufactures several components of the Audi A8 L Security in a confidential facility. The engineers have used variety of combination of materials to built this armoured vehicle and as a result there’s no increase in kerb weight in comparison with the older version that only fulfilled resistance class VR 7.
Some of the striking features employed in the Audi A8 L Security are an intercom system, armored communications box, emergency exit, selective door unlocking, an emergency fresh air ventilator and a fire extinguisher system. it can withstand an impressive maximum payload of 600 kg and the top speed is electronically governed to 210 kmph.
The only luxury armoured sedan with all-wheel drive Quattro system is powered by a 4.0-litre TFSI biturbo V8 engine generating 435 hp of maximum power output and 442 pound-feet(600 Nm) of peak torque or the other motor customers can opt for is a 6.3-litre W12 FSI engine making out a maximum of 500 hp and 461 lb-ft(625 Nm) of peak torque.
