Ather Energy S340 smart electric scooter introduced with an electric range of 60 km with 72 kmph top speed
Ather Energy was born in 2013 from the creative thinking of two IIT graduates Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain. Receiving investments from Tiger Global and Flipkart founders Sachin and Binny Bansal, the company aims to manufacture the S340 locally at the production unit in Bangalore starting from the closing quarters of this year with Lithium-ion battery pack designed and developed in-house.
With 15 patent applications have been filed for the product already, the Ather S340 comprises of a touchscreen covering the instrument cluster and is connected to the cloud system with a slew of other smart features claims the company. Presented as the country’s first-ever ‘smart, electric scooter’, the high capacity Lithium Ion battery pack enables a full-electric range of 60 km while the scooter can get to a top speed of 72 km per hour.
The connected scooter has a targeted customer base in urban areas who is fanatical about technology and futuristic commuters says Ather Energy. The powerful and durable IP67-rated battery pack is capable of providing uncompromised ride for 50,000 km divulges the Bangalore-based outfit.
The electric scooter charges up to 80 per cent in just 50 minutes with the help of fast charging mode and can be connected to the extensively used 5A socket in normal mode. To enhance the ride quality, the Ather S340 has been built with low centre of gravity, nil lateral weight offset for better handling and boasts clever LED lighting system that responds as per the ambiance prevailing
Apart from the battery technology, the Ather S340’s specialty lies in its tech-stuffed dashboard. With the presence of cloud based data, the customers’ ride is personalised and features such as an on-board navigation system acting as route finder in congested urban traffic and profile based sign-in aid for the riders’ driving convenience.
Furthermore, sport and economy modes can be configured in prior allowing for integrated riding experience. To synchronise navigation routes and riding configuration automatically, Ather is set to provide S340 Mobile App in various platforms like Android and IOS.
Predictive analytics and aggregation of ride statistics depending on customers’ preference will prompt customised vehicle updates delivered ‘over the air’ automatically. Ather Energy is planning to bring the smart electric scooter’s experience to real life via test rides in the next few months. As an industry pioneer, the S340 will revolutionise two-wheeler purchase by offering them only in online with doorstep delivery and service facilities. Booking for the pre-order will begin in Bangalore, Chennai and Pune with brand aiming to establish public charging infrastructure in collaboration with government and private organisations.
