American racing driver Bryan Clauson has died in a fatal crash in Bellevile Midget Nationals in Kansas. The 27 year old racing driver was killed when his car was knocked by a lapped car and flipped into the catch fence. After that it was again knocked by an oncoming car and rolled over several times. Seriously injured Clauson was immediately airlifted to Bryan Medical Center in Nebraska where he succumbed to injuries on Saturday night.
The Californian driver was widely regarded as one of the finest dirt track racing drivers in US. Also he has been known as a very talented speedway driver as well. He won a total of 8 USAC national championships in midget and sprint cars. He also competed in Indy Lights, Indy Cars and NASCAR Xfinity Series as rookie.
The Saturday night race was his 116th race of the year and even during the accident he was leading. Bryan Clauson set his goal to compete in 200 races in one season this year. Last season he took part in the Indianapolis 500 for the third time.
He led the race in total of three laps and finished at 23rd position which was his career best finish. Interestingly, on the same day he won the 30 lap feature sprint car race at Kokomo Speedway, Indiana.
Reacting about Clauson’s death USAC President Mr. Kevin Miller said, it was one of the darkest days in the USAC racing history. The late racing driver survived by his parents Tim and Diana, and sister Taylor. A memorial service will be held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway at a later date to pay respect to Bryan Clauson.
