2016 Auto Expo : All New Tucson SUV Unveiled in India, Launch likely by September this year

The third generation Hyundai Tucson has been unwrapped at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida. It marks the re-entry of the mid-size SUV which was sold in India between 2005 and 2010 and then discontinued due to underwhelming sales performance.

With the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, the latest generation global SUV was revealed last year at the Geneva Motor Show and it will be looking to compete against Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer, BMW X1 and the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan.

The India-specific Hyundai Tucson is powered by a 2.0-litre CRDi diesel mill generating 175 bhp and 402 Nm of peak torque, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. It will hit a top speed of 201 kmph and will also be available with a 1.6-litre petrol unit. The three transmission offerings are a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Up front, it features signature hexagonal grille with LED headlamps on either side, heavily sculpted side profile, long bonnet structure, curvy roofline, rounded body panels and sleeker horizontal lines enhancing its bolder appearance. On the inside, 6-airbag system, park assist, powered tailgate, ventilated and heated seats and a navigation system are on offer.

The five-seater Hyundai Tucson measures about a wheelbase of 2,670mm; 4,475mm in length; 1,850mm in width and 1,655mm in height with fuel tank capacity of 62 litres. Expected to be arrive at the showrooms during the first half of 2016, the Tucson accommodates for 513 litres of luggage space and comes packed with safety electronic assistance like lane keeping assist system, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, active hood system, red traffic cross alert and much more.
