Toyota Innova 2.0X gets cosmetic updates and interior embellishments along with feature additions

For the Malaysian market, Toyota has launched a new top-of-the-line variant of the Innova. Dubbed the Innova 2.0X, it is to address the MPV customers wanting to own a sporty version of the popular model. Open for orders, the new 2.0X is added to the lineup already comprising of 2.0G AT and 2.0E MT and 2.0E AT variants.

By looking at it, you could spot the striking resemblance it has with the Innova Touring Sport sold in India. In Malaysia, the 2.0X is based on the 2.0G by receiving several similar equipment but there are some new features added over that top-spec variant as well to make it attractive. With styling resonating a bit of crossover appeal, the LED headlamps are in place of regular halogen units while the alloy wheels are larger at 17 inches compared to the other two variants.

On the inside, the biggest change has to be the inclusion of two captain seats instead of the regular bench. It brings a seven-seater layout rather than the standard eight. As in the 2.0G, the interior receives satin gold and glossy wooden trim along with automatic AC, dual-zone ambient lighting, reversing camera, eight-inch DVD-AVX infotainment, Optitron instrument panel with TFT LCD display. Moreover, the premium nature is emphasised with six-way powered driver seat and leather seat upholstery that cannot be found in other two variants.

Toyota has also introduced seven airbags, Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control to the 2.0E with revised pricing. This makes the safety standard of the base variant on par with the 2.0G and 2.0X which were certified five stars by the ASEAN NCAP crash test organisation. With more options to choose from the accessory pack, the 2.0X is attractive in deed.

The Toyota Innova 2.0X is powered by the Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine making 139 PS at 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Sending power to the wheels is through a six-speed automatic transmission as standard.
