The 4X4 ICE and EV markets will witness plenty of action over the next few years from carmakers like Mahindra, Tata, Toyota, MG and Jeep and here we have detailed the possible and confirmed upcoming launches in this category:

1. Mahindra Thar Roxx 4X4:

The prices of all but the 4×4 variants of the Mahindra Thar Roxx are already out in India. Sitting at the higher end of the range, the 4WD Thar Roxx will be made available only with the 2.2L four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine. The test drives at dealerships will begin on September 14 while the official bookings will open on October 3 and on the latter date the prices of the 4X4 variants could be announced.

2&3. Tata Harrier EV & Sierra EV:

Recently, Tata introduced the Curvv EV in India and it will be followed by the Harrier EV in early 2025. The electric version of the Harrier was showcased in its near-production form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. Both the Harrier EV and Sierra EV will feature dual electric motor setups, one driving each wheel, enabling an all-wheel-drive system.

4. Toyota Fortuner MHEV:

The mild-hybrid version of the Fortuner is on sale in several international markets including South Africa. The existing GD diesel engine works in tandem with an electric motor and a small battery pack to improve acceleration and reduce fuel consumption as well as emissions. While no official confirmation has been made yet, the Fortuner MHEV could arrive in the near future.

5. Toyota FJ Cruiser:

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be rolled out in Thailand from November and it will utilise the IMV 0 platform, shared with the Hilux Champ. It will more likely be a more compact version of the Fortuner and aims to retain the full-size SUV’s famed off-road capabilities. It may as well be considered for India in the future.

6. MG Gloster Facelift:

Before the end of this calendar year, JSW MG Motor India is expected to launch the facelifted version of the Gloster. The full-size will receive visual updates and an enhanced interior with the addition of new features and technologies.

7&8. Updated Jeep Compass & Meridian:

The mid-life updates to the Compass and Meridian are coming sooner rather than later as they will be introduced during this festive season taking advantage of the festive season furore. Besides cosmetic changes, new features could be added but mechanical changes are highly unlikely.
