Recent reports emerged on the internet suggested that Volkswagen would utilise the import relaxations for CBU vehicles and introduce the T-Roc in limited numbers in India along the course of this year. In May 2017, VW launched the Tiguan premium SUV in a rather steep bracket and it is currently priced at Rs. 28.07 lakh and Rs. 31.46 lakh (ex-showroom) for Comfortline and Highline variants respectively.

The Tiguan has never set the sales charts on fire and its volume has remained mediocre for long. However, as part of reviving its fortunes, Volkswagen will reportedly be introducing the Allspace model as a replacement of the regular Tiguan. Considering facts, it does make sense as the Allspace is more practical than the standard Tiguan.

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has seven-seater configuration and its length has length increased by 215 mm while the wheelbase is longer by 110 mm compared to the Tiguan currently on sale. It also offers 60 mm more knee room while the elongated length meant the boot volume goes up by 115 litres at 730 litres in total.

Due to the change in dimensions, the Allspace has bigger quarter glass and rear window to accommodate two more occupants. Taking inspiration from the Atlas, the front fascia has a slightly tweaked design compared to the regular Tiguan and the chrome bar has a more prominent styling along with the radiator grille.

The Allspace may or may not act as a replacement of the standard model but if it does the Allspace suffix could be eliminated. Chances of the German manufacturer offering the 4Motion four-wheel-drive system with the Allspace is less though as it will incur high costs and expect the 2.0-litre inline turbocharged DOHC diesel engine to continue its duties without any change in performance.

In the regular five-seat Tiguan, it produces a maximum power output of 141 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 340 Nm of peak torque delivered at 1,750 rpm. It is connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission with 17.06 kmpl claimed mileage.
