Production Lamborghini Urus will get power from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine developing 600 bhp and 800 Nm of peak torque

Lamborghini’s re-entry into the SUV segment will be addressed by the production version of this prototype spotted at the Nurburgring recently. It is the much talked about Urus which is set to retain its overall shape and form despite the test prototype here hiding its actual body.

With a coupe-ish roofline and sporty bodywork it is not another conventional luxury-class SUV for sure but will have a distinctive character on its own. The Lamborghini Urus will use a 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8 engine good enough to develop a maximum power output of 600 bhp and 800 Nm of peak torque.

It is reported to cost from £180,000 when it goes up on sale. The “super sports car inside an SUV” as Lambo boss Domenicali put it as will be publicly revealed in its production guise very soon. Brimmed with super car tech, it will roughly cost as similar to the Huracan and has certainly raised eyebrows when it first came out as it’s rather unusual.

The Urus is also predicted to account for half the total volume of models Lamborghini sells worldwide in the next two years. This shows the importance the all-new SUV carries for the brand as the first vehicle of such type since the LM002 has been in the works since 2012.

It is no secret that Lamborghini is trying to address the growing popularity of luxury or performance-based SUVs globally and the Urus is as controversial as it comes considering the nature of super fast hyper cars from the brand. As for the drivetrain, Lamborghini will employ the dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel-drive system.

In an identical fashion to the Aventador S, the Urus will feature electronic four wheel steering and damping as well. Following its launch, Lamborghini will introduce a plug-in hybrid variant as the Urus will signal the company’s entry into electric mobility.
