Over the next two months, we will witness the launch/debut of as many as six new models in the mass market segment in India
Automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, MG and Citroen will introduce new models over the next two months and here we have covered all of them:
1. Citroen C3 Aircross:
The Citroen C3 Aircross will make its global debut on April 27 and it will be launched later this year in India. The midsize SUV will sit on the same CMP platform as the C3 compact hatch but it will be more upmarket inside and out. It will be powered by a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine developing around 110 hp and 190 Nm.
2. MG Comet EV:
MG will officially launch the Comet EV on April 26 and is equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery pack, capable of a driving range of 230 km on a single charge. The two-door EV is the smallest passenger car in the country and it will take on Tiago EV and Citroen eC3. The MG Comet comes with features such as a dual 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and it will likely carry a starting price of around Rs. 10 lakh.
3. Maruti Suzuki Fronx:
In the coming weeks, Maruti Suzuki will announce the prices of the Fronx compact SUV coupe. The five-seater sits on the same Heartect architecture as the Baleno and it draws design cues from the Grand Vitara. The Fronx will be available with a 1.2L petrol or a 1.0L turbo petrol engine option and it will be retailed exclusively through Nexa dealerships.
4. Maruti Suzuki Jimny:
In May or June, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Jimny lifestyle off-road SUV in the domestic market. It won’t have any direct rivals upon arrival and will be powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder K15B petrol engine, paired with a five-speed MT or a four-speed AT transferring power to all four wheels through Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system as standard.
5. Tata Altroz CNG:
Tata Motors has commenced bookings for the Altroz CNG in India and its deliveries will begin next month. The official prices will be announced in a week or two and the hatch will be available in an expansive range. The Altroz CNG will derive power from the familiar 1.2L NA petrol engine, linked with a five-speed manual transmission. It will take on Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and Toyota Glanza CNG.
6. Hyundai Exter:
Hyundai has started teasing the Exter micro SUV ahead of its premiere in the coming weeks. It will compete against Tata Punch and will be underpinned by the same platform as the Grand i10 Nios and Aura. The Hyundai Exter will feature a 1.2L NA petrol engine while a 1.0L turbo petrol engine cannot be ruled out of the equation either.
