The new generation Ertiga is bigger, better and more equipped than its predecessor; uses a brand new mild-hybrid petrol engine

Maruti Suzuki launched the new generation Ertiga in India recently. The new MPV is available with both petrol and a diesel engine option just like its predecessor. However, the good news is that the new Ertiga gets a more powerful petrol engine which replaces the old unit. Moreover, the new MPV is also bigger in dimension and provides more interior space for its occupants now. That said, here are the 5 things that you should know about the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

1. All new design language

The new generation Ertiga gets Maruti’s all-new design language. As a result of that, the MPV is actually a lot sharper and looks more premium compared to its predecessor. Towards the front, the old Ertiga MPV’s halogen headlamp unit has now been replaced with projector lens while the conventional tail lamps have now also been replaced with LED tail lamps which get inspired from the Volvo cars. It also gets a reworked front and rear bumpers which have helped increase the overall appeal of the MPV.

2. Bigger In dimension & also gets new Platform

The new-gen Ertiga is 99mm longer, 40mm wider and 5mm taller than the outgoing model. The MPV is 4,395mm long, 1,735mm wide and 1,690mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,740mm. The 2018 Ertiga offers more shoulder and leg room for the second and third-row passengers now.

The Ertiga uses a new Heartect platform which also underpins some other Maruti cars including the Swift, Dzire, Ignis, and Baleno. This new platform has helped the big MPV to shed some significant amount of weight.

3. New Petrol engine

Although the diesel variant of the Ertiga gets the same 1.3-litre motor which produces 90hp of peak power at 4,400rpm and 200Nm of peak torque at 1,750rpm. What’s interesting is the fact that the petrol variant gets a new and more powerful 1.5-liter K15 unit which also power their Ciaz sedan.

The engine is capable of producing about 105Hp of peak power at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. The engine is paired to a 5-speed gearbox, while there is also a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission on offer as well.

4. Updated interior with more features

The updated interior not only offers more space, but it also gets more features as well. The new Ertiga interior is equipped with Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system which comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation.

This is the same system which can also be found in some other Maruti cars as well. Besides that, it also features a rear parking sensor with the camera, automatic climate control, push-button start/stop, leather-wrapped steering wheel and height adjustable driver seat etc.

5. The new Ertiga gets Bigger Boot

Although the wheelbase remained the same still the new Ertiga offers more boot space inside the cabin because it has increased in length. The new Ertiga now offers 209 litres of boot space with all seats in up position. While folding both the third and the second-row seats down you get an impressive 803 litres of space for luggage.
