Yamaha YZF-R15 sales increased by 82 per cent last month, the company sold over 85,000 units in 2018 in India

Yamaha sold 3,484 units of YZF-R15 in December 2018 compared to 1,917 units in December 2017 and the company posted 82 per cent Year-On-Year growth. Most of the bikes in premium segment registered negative Month-On-Month growth in December.

The introduction of the new generation model at the 2018 Auto Expo has helped the R15 to perform really well as the company sold 86,505 units in the last CY. The R15 Version 3.0 is the second best selling bike from Yamaha last year as the FZ is currently leading the chart. The company has increased the price of R15 gradually over the last few months.

The launch of much awaited Moto GP Edition in August increased the sales of R15 in the subsequent months even though it didn’t come with any mechanical changes. Yamaha officially launched the ABS version of R15 Version 3.0 earlier this month and it is priced at a premium of Rs. 12,000 over the regular model as it retails for Rs. 1.39 lakh (Ex-Showroom).

All motorcycles above 125 cc must come with the ABS system and the deadline for current models is April 2019. The company has given dual channel ABS unit for the R15 and it comes with adjustable fluid pressure also. Along with the ABS variant, Yamaha introduced a new Darknight colour and it is priced at Rs. 1.41 lakh (Ex-Showroom).

The R15 is also available in Thunder Grey, Racing Blue and Moto GP Blue. The design of new generation R15 is similar to the flagship model R1 as the front get dual LED headlamps along with a new design for the fairing. The split seat has been retained and the rear gets new LED tail lamps. The instrument cluster is fully digital and the bike comes with clip-on-handlebar.

Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 is powered by 155 cc single cylinder engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) and it produces 19.3 PS of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the front gets telescopic forks while the rear comes with mono-suspension. The braking power comes from 282 mm at the front and 220 mm at the rear.
