2019 is going to be an exciting year for motoring fans as we are expecting more launches from manufacturers and most of them will be in SUV segments as it is the fastest growing segment in the country. The launch season begins from January and in this article, we are featuring the top 5 most awaited cars to be launched in India next year.

1. Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier is the production version of H5X concept shown at 2018 Auto Expo and it is based on Omega platform derived from Land Rover Discovery D8 platform but the company has replaced expensive parts with other components to keep cost down. The exterior design of the production model is identical to the concept version as the company has made some minor changes only.

The interior will get an all-new premium design and it will be loaded with class-leading features to lure buyers. The Harrier is powered by 2.0 L engine sourced from FCA with 140 PS of power and transmission options include 6-speed manual and automatic sourced from Hyundai with different drive modes also. The launch is expected to take place in early 2019.

2. Tata 45X

Tata Motors revealed the 45X premium hatchback concept at 2018 Auto Expo and the production model will be introduced by the end of 2019 in India. Like Harrier, we are expecting the company to carry forward the same design theme for the production version and it will be based on the new Alpha platform.

The overall length will be just under four metres but we can expect good space inside the cabin. The interior also gets a new design theme and it will be loaded with lots of features. The engine lineup includes a new BSVI 1.2 L petrol engine and 1.5 L turbocharged diesel engine with the option of a manual and AMT gearbox.

3. Mahindra S201

Mahindra is planning to introduce a new compact SUV in early 2019 and it is codenamed as S201. The compact SUV is based on the SsangYong Tivoli platform and the front gets a new grille, which is similar to the recently launched Alturas G4. The company has given a new set of front and rear bumpers with projector headlamp setup and a new set of fog lamps. The side gets new alloy wheels and the rear get LED tail lamps.

The interior will be carried over from Tivoli and it will be loaded with some segment first features. The company is also focusing on safety and the engine lineup includes a new 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine and 1.5 L diesel engine from Marazzo with manual and automatic transmission options. We can expect aggressive pricing from the company.

4. Nissan Kicks

Nissan is finally going to launch its much-awaited Kicks compact SUV in early 2019. The India-spec Kicks is based on the same platform as Renault Duster as the company decided to use this to reduce cost and the design is also slightly different from the International-spec model. The front gets LED projector headlamp and LED fog lamps along with 17-inch alloy wheels on the top end model.

The rear comes with iconic boomerang shaped tail lamps and the overall dimensions have increased for the India-spec model. The interior is shared with the global model and it will be loaded with lots of features. The Kicks will be powered by same 1.5 L diesel and petrol engines from Captur with manual and automatic transmission also. The Kicks is expected to be priced aggressively against competitors.

5. Kia SP Concept Production Model

Kia is going to launch its first model in India by the middle of 2019 and it will be the production version of the SP Concept shown at 2018 Auto Expo. The compact SUV will be based on the next-generation Hyundai Creta platform. The front gets signature grille of Kia along with split headlamps setup in which LED DRL is placed on top and regular projector headlamp below.

The side gets square wheel arches and machine cut alloy wheels while the rear gets LED tail lamps along with a new bumper. The interior is expected to carry the same design theme as other Kia models and it will be packed with lots of features. The engine lineup includes new BSVI 1.5 L petrol and diesel engine with manual and automatic transmission options.
