5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is expected to make its world debut on January 12, 2023 at the Delhi Auto Expo

According to a recent report that emerged on Best Car Web, the five-door version of the Jimny will likely make its global debut on January 12, 2023 at the Auto Expo. The test prototypes of the upcoming lifestyle off-road SUV have been caught on camera quite a few times in recent months in India and it could debut alongside the Baleno-based YTB.

The speculations surrounding the five-door Jimny have existed since the latest three-door model made its debut in 2018. The three-door Jimny has a high demand across the globe and is also manufactured in India for export purposes. Reports suggest that the more practical five-door variant will have an extended wheelbase by around 300 mm.

It is said to measure 3,850 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width and stands 1,730 mm in height with a wheelbase length of 2,550 mm. In the European market, the five-door Jimny could be equipped with a 1.4-litre four-cylinder 48V mild-hybrid petrol engine as in the S-Cross sold there and in the near future, a fully hybrid powertrain could be adopted to meet the more stringent emission norms.

In India, the familiar 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15C petrol engine with smart hybrid technology could be utilised. It can already be found in the new-gen Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder while the new Urban Cruiser compact SUV will also use the same mill. The DualJet naturally-aspirated mild-hybrid unit is good enough to produce a maximum power of 103 PS and 137 Nm of peak torque.

It will likely be paired with a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission transferring power to all four wheels through Suzuki’s AllGrip system with a manual transfer case. The spy shots suggest that it will have circular LED projector headlamps, vertical front grille slats, upright pillars, longer rear doors and overhangs, new wheels, etc.

The interior is also expected to be more premium than the three-door Jimny Sierra as a larger nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and new surface trims and finishes are of high possibilities. It will take on upcoming five-door Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
