The 5-door Mahindra Thar is expected to go on sale by the middle of this year and it will be more spacious and premium compared to its three-door counterpart

Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch the facelifted XUV300 in the coming months in India and it will likely be followed by the five-door version of the Thar. The range of the lifestyle off-roader was expanded with the inclusion of the 2WD variant just over a year ago and the five-door avatar will be more premium than the existing three-door model.

The five-door Mahindra Thar has been caught testing several times on public roads now. Here we have shown you two test prototypes spotted on the Coimbatore-Erode highway. The upcoming SUV could be dubbed the Thar Armada and it will have larger proportions and two additional doors enabling a roomier cabin. At the same time, the equipment list will be substantially upgraded.

The exterior will undergo notable changes as an updated grille section and bumper, LED lighting system for headlamps, tail lamps, turn signals and fog lamps, different quarter glass at the rear and new rear door handles. The top-end versions will feature newly designed alloy wheels of 19 inches size and new colour schemes could also be added.

The cabin will offer a two-tone theme in the high-spec trims while the updated centre console houses a larger touchscreen infotainment system and it will measure 10.25 inches. The all-digital instrument console will have a similar size too. The infotainment could be shared with the unit found in the 2024 XUV400 and the forthcoming XUV300 facelift.

The digital console could be the same unit seen in the XUV700. The features list will also include an electric sunroof, AC vents at the rear, push button start/stop and much more. As for safety, disc brakes on all four wheels and six airbags will be available. The body-on-frame chassis and the suspension setup will be shared with the Scorpio N.

The familiar 2.2L mHawk diesel and 2.0L mStallion petrol engines could be carried over from the existing three-door Thar with six-speed MT and six-speed AT options. It could have a starting price of just over Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
