Toyota GR Corolla is equipped with a 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 304 hp and 370 Nm of peak torque
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) will host the local debut of the GR Corolla at the 2023 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The motoring show will witness Toyota showcasing a range of new models including the Innova Hycross and the Land Cruiser 300. The Toyota GR Corolla is based on the global Corolla hatchback with a host of enhancements inside and out.
It will become the first GR (Gazoo Racing) model to be displayed in India and is equipped with a 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is good enough to generate a maximum power output of 304 hp and 370 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain is linked with a six-speed manual transmission transferring power to all four wheels.
Compared to the standard Corolla, it gets noticeable mechanical updates as well. It features a new cooling system, larger exhaust valves, new intake port and a triple exhaust unit and updates related to improve the overall aero. The transmission comes with a rev-matching system as well for smoother and more responsive gear shifts.
On the outside, the Toyota GR Corolla gains a more prominent front grille, wider air inlets, flared wheel arch, a sporty rear diffuser and a set of black alloy wheels with red brake calipers on each wheel. Other highlights are a black finished shark fin antenna, GR badging at the front, a sculpted bootlid, boomerang-shaped LED tail lamps, side skirts, sleek headlamps, a muscular bonnet structure, etc.
Just as the exterior, the cabin gets a slew of revisions including GR badge finish on the seats and aluminium pedals, leather GR steering wheel, etc. It sits on the modular TNGA platform but with a more rigid body developed by Gazoo Racing. Tips the weighting scale at 1,474 kg, it is lighter than the regular Corolla with improved performance characteristics.
The Japanese manufacturer will utilise the exhibit to garner customer interest for the performance model and for other models waiting to be showcased. It will be accompanied by PHEV, FCEV, flex fuel hybrid, pure EV, hydrogen and strong hybrid models.
