Kia India plans to expand its product lineup by introducing two new electric SUVs and a new electric MPV and here is everything you need to know

Kia appears to be developing two locally made electric cars for 2025 while the flagship EV9 electric seven-seater SUV is expected to arrive before the end of this calendar year or in early 2025. Here we have brought you all the known details about the trio:

1. Kia EV9:

The Kia EV9 was introduced for the global markets last year. Its launch in India is anticipated for late 2024 or early 2025, with the vehicle expected to be fully imported. The EV9 offers a driving range of 541 km in the WLTP cycle and is available in both single- and dual-motor configurations in international markets. It’s yet to be seen which of these setups Kia will bring to India.

The Kia EV9 is based on the E-GMP, the same skateboard EV architecture used in recent Kia and Hyundai electric vehicles. This platform gives the EV9 a low centre of gravity and flexibility in design. Positioned above the Kia EV6 crossover globally, the EV9 will feature a large touchscreen display, a digital instrument console, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for enhanced safety. Additionally, it will support Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, allowing for seamless software upgrades and improvements.

2. Kia Clavis:

The IC-engined Kia Clavis has been spotted undergoing testing in various locations, including overseas and in India. It is set for a world premiere later this year, with launches planned in multiple markets including India in early 2025. The Kia Clavis will feature a rugged design, emphasizing its lifestyle-focused appeal. Its design will borrow elements from the latest Kia Soul.

The Kia Clavis, despite its rugged styling, won’t feature the specialized off-road components typically found in vehicles like the Mahindra Thar. Instead, the Clavis is designed for everyday versatility and practicality. Positioned above the Sonet compact SUV, it will offer a spacious interior and a larger boot, enhancing its utility for a wider range of users. An electric version of the Clavis has also been seen undergoing testing and is expected to debut in the Indian market next year with a range of over 400 km to rival the Tata Punch EV.

3. Kia Carens EV:

Carens ICE

In the latter half of 2025, the South Korean auto manufacturer plans to bring in an electrified MPV based on the Carens. This upcoming e-MPV is likely to share many components and crucial elements with the electric version of the Clavis. As Hyundai Motor Group and Kia continue to expand their electric vehicle offerings, their collaboration with Indian battery manufacturer Exide may play a significant role in developing this family-oriented electric MPV.
