2024 Hyundai Kona Electric gets a host of revisions inside and out bringing a more futuristic vibe; a new regen braking system and V2L function are available
Earlier this year, Hyundai unveiled the new generation Kona range as the all-new Kona Electric also came to the fore. Now, more information on the electric crossover has been revealed by the brand including its specifications and driving range. It will be available in the United States market in the coming months and will be rolled out of Hyundai’s factory in Ulsan, South Korea.
Compared to the outgoing model, it will be a major makeover. The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric gets a host of revisions inside and out bringing a more futuristic vibe. The exterior comprises a split LED headlamp cluster with a horizontal LED light strip covering the entire width while the Hyundai badge is mounted on the muscular bonnet section.
The charging port is positioned right up front and below which a wide air intake can be clearly seen with metallic inserts. The influence of the parametric design theme can be noted and the squared-off wheel arches have a sculpted profile. The side profile comes with a prominent black cladding and a sloping roofline. The overall design is aerodynamically more efficient too with a drag coefficient of 0.27.
The active grille shutters open to cool off the battery and it improves the airflow as well. Compared to the old model, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is longer, and wider and comes with a longer wheelbase as well. The new zero-emission crossover is equipped with a larger 64.8 kWh battery pack and it has a claimed driving range of 418 km on a single charge.
The standard model gets an estimated EPA range of 317 km. While the range did not improve much, the charging time did as 10 per cent to 80 per cent can be reached in 43 minutes with a 400-volt Level 3 DC fast charger. The electric motor continues to deliver up to 201 hp and the EV stays put with the modified K3 architecture. A new regen system and V2L function take the spotlight.
The equipment list comprises a twin 12.3-inch screen layout (one for the touchscreen infotainment system and the other for instrumentation), ambient lighting, use of premium quality materials, multifunctional steering wheel, layered dashboard, metallic accents, etc.
