2023 VW Taigun and Virtus gain newly added features and adopt RDE complaint BS6 phase 2 engines

Volkswagen has included new features in its lower trims of the Taigun SUV and the Virtus sedan. Volkswagen India has upgraded its Taigun and Virtus car models with the addition of the new BS6 Phase 2-compliant powertrains. With this update, the petrol engines offered by Taigun and Virtus are now compatible with Real Driving Emissions (RDE) and are capable of consuming E20 (20% of Ethanol) gasoline.

Moreover, Volkswagen has also announced a price bump-up of up to 2% for its range, beginning on April 1, 2023 which includes Taigun and Virtus and also the Tiguan premium SUV model.

On its 1.0 TSI Highline and 1.5 TSI GT trims of the Taigun, the German OEM is offering automatic headlights with a follow me home feature. In the past, this feature was only available with higher-spec 1.0 TSI Topline and the 1.5 TSI GT Plus trims of the Taigun. In addition, Volkswagen is now offering rear fog lamps as standard in all models of Virtus.

The new price hike will come into force from April 1 which is now increased to 2%. Currently, the price of Taigun falls into a range of Rs 11.56 lakh to Rs 18.96 lakh. Virtus price falls into the bracket from Rs 11.32 lakh to Rs 18.32 lakh.

From a competition standpoint, Volkswagen Taigun will have tough rivals including Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Skoda Kushaq. On the other side of the spectrum, Vitrus is competing with Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, facelifted Honda City, new Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia.

The Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus are equipped with the same engine options. It comes as a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine and generates 115hp and 175Nm of torque. The other engine option comes as a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 150hp and 250Nm of torque. From the transmission perspective, it comes as a six-speed manual, a six-speed torque converter and a 7-speed dual-clutch auto depending on the engine.
