Mahindra Thar will get a full model change soon, here is how it will look when launched late next year in India

Mahindra Thar has been one of the most popular SUVs for enthusiasts in the Indian market for a long time. It has been a decade since Mahindra first launched the Thar in the Indian market and it has come a long way since then.

However, during the lifetime of the current Thar, Mahindra did not do any major update in the SUV and with the new vehicle safety regulations coming in from 2020, Mahindra has started testing the second-generation of the Thar. The current generation of the Mahindra would not be able to meet the minimum safety regulations.

The all-new Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assesment Program (BNVSAP) would set in from April 2020. Mahindra has started working on the all-new Thar and it is expected to be launched in early 2020. After the Mahindra Thar was earlier spotted parked at a roadside, the second set of pictures show the all-new SUV testing on the open highway. The rendered image shows how the vehicle will look like exactly if the camouflage was removed.

Under the heavy camouflage, the Mahindra Thar retains its iconic shape. The seven-slat grille and the round headlamps of the Mahindra Thar keep it close to the original design. However, it has grown a lot in size. The all-new upcoming Thar looks much wider tha the current-generation model, which means it gets a new body and new chassis. The flared wheel arches further add to the wide looks. The upcoming Mahindra Thar looks extremely similar to the Jeep Wrangler in terms of design.

The new Thar has been spotted with a fabric canopy during the test. But it is highly likely that the all-new Thar will get a hardtop version too to take on the likes of Force Gurkha on the road. The all-new Thar is expected to be much more comfortable than the current version and is expected to get creature-comforts like touchscreen infotainment system.

Also, with the new safety regulations, Mahindra will also add features like standard ABS+EBD and airbags to the upcoming Thar. As the BS VI emission norms would also kick in soon, we can expect Mahindra to use an updated version of the 2.2-litre diesel engine in the upcoming Thar. Other off-roading features like the Locking Differential and Low Ratio Transfer case would remain on the feature list.
