The all-new Hyundai Elite i20 has been caught testing for the first time and will launch in India in 2020.

As far as the Indian automobile market is concerned, hatchbacks rule the rooster. Among these, there’s a growing demand for premium hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Often credited with changing hatchback landscape by offering a good looking feature rich car, the Elite i20 is yet to get a second generation in India. Although Hyundai did add a facelifted model last year, as per new spy pictures, the next-gen Hyundai i20 is in the pipeline and has been spied for the first time.

The exclusive images are provided by IAB and show the new i20 in full camouflage. The all-new caught near the company’s Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai model alongside the next-gen 2019 Hyundai Grand i10. If we have to go by history, the first gen i20 was completely changed to look more European and was named Elite i20.

However, the new i20 has a familiar stance as the outgoing model with a similarly low and wide body, but sharper like European cars. A closer look at the camouflaged spy shots suggests that the ORVMs are sleeker, while the rear quarter glass has been removed.

Since this is the only spy shot we have got, there’s no detail of the cabin and engine. However, it is not difficult guessing that the all-new Hyundai i20 will have elements borrowed from the newly launched Hyundai Venue, including floating infotainment system. BlueLink Connected Technology, and many first in segment features.

In terms of engine, the new Hyundai Elite i20 will get a BS VI version of same engines – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The gearbox options could be the same 5-speed MT or an optional CVT gearbox and a 6-speed MT for the diesel engine.

However, the new Elite i20 can also be powered by an N variant sporting the 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DCT. While it has been confirmed that the N-Division will enter India, the 1.0-litre engine for the first time was offered in the Hyundai Venue. However, the Elite i20 can be a hot hatch with the use of this engine.
