2020 Bajaj Pulsar 150 BS6 with drum ABS is expected to launch this festive season with several new updates

Bajaj Auto has been spied testing the updated Pulsar 150 in the open with a number of new changes. Caught on camera without any camouflage, the test mule indicates the presence of a slew of updates. It makes us believe that the prototype carries the upgraded BSVI engine. The homegrown manufacturer introduced the ABS-equipped variants of its domestic lineup ahead of the April 2019 deadline.

The Pulsar 150 series has been a mainstay of Bajaj garnering high volumes every month and it plays a key role in determining positive or negative YoY growth. The ABS-fitted Pulsar 150 range has the Standard, Neon and twin-disc variants and they are priced at Rs. 84,461, Rs. 68,250 and Rs. 88,339 respectively (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).

The BSVI engine could be introduced ahead of the April 2020 deadline or as early as this festive season to capitalise on the positive buying sentiments prevailing during that period and is expected to increase the price of the 150 variants due to the internal upgrades to meet the stringent emission regulations.

The undisguised test mule caught in red exterior colour with black grab rails indicates the existence of several updates. The BSVI version was expected to continue with a single-channel ABS system to keep the costs in check but it does not appear to be the case as the rear features drum ABS with speed sensing ring.

It will be interesting to see how it performs compared to the conventional ABS unit. Additionally, the black finished belly pan, reflectors mounted on the front telescopic fork, slightly updates graphics, blackened rims and probably new footpegs are other features we could see along with steel braided brake lines.

The BSVI upgrade may increase the performance figures of the existing powertrain. Currently, the Pulsar 150 range uses a 149.5 cc single-cylinder four-stroke twin-spark air-cooled DTS-i engine that is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 14 PS at 8,000 rpm and 13.4 Nm of peak torque delivered at 6,000 rpm. It is connected to a five-speed transmission.
