Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the all-new WagonR in the Indian market. The much-awaited hatchback had been revealed exclusively by us earlier through pictures. The all-new WagonR will be launched on 23rd January and will take on the likes of all-new Santro in the Indian market. How different is the all-new WagonR from the current generation WagonR? Here’s a detailed comparison that will tell you about all the differences.

The all-new WagonR get the fifth generation HEARTECT platform that also underpins cars like the Ignis, Swift and the Dzire in the Indian market. It makes the new-gen model lighter, more fuel efficient along with having bigger proportions while improving its ride and handling.

New Wagon R Vs Old Wagon R: Dimensions

The all-new WagonR has become bigger and taller than the outgoing model. The all-new WagonR measures 3,655mm in length, which is 19mm longer than the current version. It is also 145mm wider than the current version and the total width now measures 1,620mm. The all-new WagonR is also 5mm higher and the total height of the car is 1,675mm. The cabin space has also increased due to the 35mm increase in the wheelbase while the tyres are wider than the existing model of the WagonR.

The all-new WagonR maintains the tall boy silhouette, which it became famous for in the Indian market. However, the looks have been updated keeping up with the modern times. The all-new WagonR features new headlamps that get a kink. Also, the tall rear tail lamps look quite fascinating. The all-new WagonR also gets a black insert in the C-Pillar that makes the pillar look much sleeker and adds a floating roof effect. Overall, the new WagonR looks much more modern than the current version of the car.

Till now, Maruti Suzuki WagonR has always offered a basic interior set-up. With the all-new WagonR, Maruti Suzuki will offer a touchscreen infotainment system for the first time ever. It will be a 7.0-inch touchscreen system that will get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay system. It will be limited to the top-end variants only though. The steering wheel in the all-new WagonR is also new.

It gets mounted buttons to control the infotainment system and answer Bluetooth-connected phone. Pertaining to the upcoming safety rules, it gets driver-side airbag, ABS+EBD, speed warning, seat belt reminder and rear parking sensors as standard across the variants.

The all-new WagonR will carry forward the current 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine. In addition, Maruti Suzuki will also offer the 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Maruti Suzuki Swift in the Indian market.

The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine produces a maximum power of 67 bhp and 90 Nm while the 1.2-litre engine is expected to produce around 83 bhp and 113 Nm. Both the engine options get AMT automatic transmission option. Maruti Suzuki will not launch a factory-fitted CNG version of the all-new WagonR at the time of the launch but it is expected to be launch at a later date.

With the new updates, Maruti Suzuki is likely to increase the price of the all-new WagonR by a bit. The all-new WagonR is still available in three trims – LXi, VXi and ZXi. The LXi gets the 1.0-litre engine while the ZXi variant gets the 1.2-litre engine. The VXi variant will offer both 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre engine options. The base price is expected to rise by around Rs. 40,000 and the all-new WagonR is expected to start at a price of Rs. 4.55 lakhs. The higher variants are expected to see a bigger price difference of around Rs. 50,000 – 60,000.
