2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid will be launched in India on January 18 with a revised interior and exterior as well as more powerful engine
Within a year of launching the 2018 Camry Hybrid in India, Toyota is gearing up to introduce the next generation model. Scheduled to go on sale on January 18, 2019 the new Toyota Camry Hybrid has been caught testing under spiral camouflage.
Based on the GA-K architecture, the upcoming full-sized premium sedan is already sold in developed countries and is making its way to India to compete against main rivals such as Honda Accord Hybrid, Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb. The eight-generation Camry has several commonalities with the gorgeously styled Lexus ES 300h that made its local debut in July 2018 at Rs. 59.13 lakh (ex-showroom).
Due to the presence of lighter and tougher platform, the upcoming Camry Hybrid will have improvements made to the chassis to aid in the betterment of handling characteristics. Moreover, it has become longer and wider than the outgoing model with increased wheelbase of 49 mm for roomier cabin.
Sitting 35 mm lower to the ground, it also has lowered centre of gravity that will assist in improving the driving dynamics. The most obvious of changes exist on the exterior as the new-gen Camry Hybrid has become fluidic in design with a striking front fascia boasting more prominent grille with sportier black horizontal slats covering the entire lower portion.
Toyota engineers had put in long hours to emphasise the cosmetic changes. Resultantly, the headlamps are sleeker and stretched back with appealing V-shaped portion housing the signature Toyota badge. The bodily creases and character lines are other visual highlights of the upcoming model. It also runs of newly designed multi-spoke wheels as you can see in the spy images.
The rear end is not as spectacular as the front but the interior has a number of new additions to savour. With a completely refreshed design, the cabin features an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster with large seven-inch display and HUD of 10 inches in size along with other comfort and convenient features.
As for the powertrain, the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes with several tricks up its sleeves. The existing 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine has increased performance by 18 hp. The 176 hp/221 Nm producing engine is coupled with an 88 kW electric motor for a combined power output of 208 hp.
The Toyota Hybrid System II has been improvised with more efficiency this time around. With the current model costing around Rs. 37.30 lakh (ex-showroom), expect the new generation Camry Hybrid to have its price increased to around Rs. 39 lakh upon arrival.
