The new generation Toyota Camry Hybrid will go on sale in India next month with a raft of exterior and interior changes

We showed you pictures of the upcoming Camry premium sedan being tested on Indian roads yesterday ahead of its market debut in January 2019. Now, Toyota has made it official by listing the new generation Camry on its domestic website by releasing a teaser.

The Camry is currently in its eighth generation internationally and the exterior has never been so better. The Japanese automaker sells the Camry in a number of engine options globally including a 2.0-litre petrol unit making 167 PS and 199 Nm and a bigger 2.5-litre petrol version developing 209 PS and 250 Nm.

Having launched only earlier this year, the latest Camry in India is retailed in a hybrid variant and it is set to continue with a more powerful system output. The new-gen Camry has grown in size courtesy of the TNGA platform and is longer and wider than the outgoing model with increased wheelbase for additional interior room.

The 2019 Toyota Camry measures 4,885 mm long, 1,840 mm wide and stands 1,445 mm tall with 2,825 mm wheelbase. It shares plenty in common with the Lexus ES 300 h that was launched in July 2018 in India. The new Camry sits 35 mm lower to the ground and has low centre of gravity as well.

The most defining bit of the new-gen Camry is its updated exterior with a prominent face and aggressive character lines. With Honda Accord Hybrid being its only direct rival, it will also go up against Skoda Superb and VW Passat. As for the performance, the 2.5-litre petrol engine combines with 88 kW to produce a maximum power output of 211 PS.

It is connected to an eight-speed E-CVT transmission. The interior gets revised dashboard along with seven-inch multi-info display, triple zone automatic climate control system, eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ten-inch head up display and nine airbags. To be locally assembled at Toyota’s Bidadi plant, it will likely cost slightly higher than the existing model at around Rs. 38 lakh (ex-showroom).
