Will India Welcome 2019 Suzuki Jimny Sierra With Off-Roading Prowess?

Suzuki will introduce new Jimny in two versions – a normal model and Sierra which is off-road focused version compared to basic model

Suzuki is expected to reveal new generation of Jimny next month. The Jimny is one of the popular off-road small vehicles in the world and it is expected to make its India entry with new generation as a replacement model for aging Gypsy. The Jimny has been already leaked on the Internet and the recent leaked brochure reveals more details about the upcoming model.

Suzuki will introduce new Jimny in two versions – a normal model and Sierra which is off-road focused version compared to basic model. The engine and other mechanicals are expected to be same for both models but the details are not yet revealed. The Sierra looks very much like a Mini Mercedes G Wagon with its styling elements.

Suzuki-Jimny-Sierra-Brochure-leaked-2The Jimny Sierra comes with additional body cladding around the wheel arches along with new alloy wheels and wider tyres which gives the new model an aggressive look. The Jimny and Sierra model come with features like projector headlamps, integrated turn indicators on the OVRMs, tail mounted spare wheel, blind spot monitoring and black finish for the bumper.

The interior of Jimny is modern and completely different from the outgoing model. Suzuki shared lots of components with Swift like switch gear. The centre console gets a 7 inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android, climate control, three spoke steering wheel with audio & Bluetooth controls and new instrument cluster.

Suzuki-Jimny-Sierra-Brochure-leaked-3Suzuki will offer Jimny as a three door model and it comes with four seats. The Jimny for Japanese market is expected to be powered by 0.66 L engine. But the global model engines include 1.2 L K-Series engine and 1.0 L Boosterjet engines. These engines will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and earlier leaked images confirmed that Jimny will get an automatic gearbox.

The global model of Jimny is expected to reach before the end of this year and sales expected to start by November/December. The Jimny is one of the popular models in Europe thanks to its versatile nature which made the model popular among customers. If launched in India, it will certainly help Maruti Suzuki to improve its sales further as Indians like small off-roaders.
