2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF 150 gets redesigned fairing and headlamps alongside sportier split seat setup

Suzuki will be launching the long-awaited quarter litre faired version of the Gixxer on the 20th of May. With just a week away from its market entry, the Gixxer SF 250 has already been leaked revealing technical details and it would have surely surprise quite a lot of enthusiasts, as Suzuki targetting a higher segment than the Yamaha FZ25 and Fazer 25.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250’s pricing has been a subject of debate for long and since it will churn out 26.5 horsepower, it will go as far as rivalling Honda CBR250R. While the speculations surrounding the SF 250 are coming thick and fast, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer appears to be preparing to accompany the Gixxer SF 250 with a more approachable and entry-level Gixxer SF 150.

Despite taking design inspiration from the GSX-R1000, the SF 150 has remained unchanged since its debut in 2014 and, in the meantime, several new rivals have come pouring in. The SF 150’s styling has not become outdated but it is always good to have a refreshed product. The facelifted motorcycle shrugs the molten design in favour of a sharper approach and is influenced by the upcoming larger 250cc sibling.

Only the side profile of the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF 150 has been leaked and correlating it with the existing model gives a clear view of what the changes are. The most obvious of the updates is the redesigned fairing while the sleeker headlamp cluster and windblast protector are other new additions. The single piece seat is ditched and gets replaced by a split unit for the pillion but is not overtly stepped up as in the YZF-R15 V3.0.

The dual-port exhaust styling looks the same but the 2019 Gixxer SF 150 has gained a rear tyre hugger as well as more appealing graphics. No mechanical and dimensional changes are likely on the cards though as the updated motorcycle will take power from the same 154.9 cc single-cylinder four-stroke air-cooled engine with carb/Fi options developing 14.8 PS at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm at 6,000 rpm. It is mated to a five-speed transmission.

Suzuki currently offers the Gixxer SF 150 in three colour options namely Glass Sparkle Black, Metallic Triton Blue and Candy Sonama Red/Metallic Sonic Silver. It uses telescopic front and monoshock rear suspension and rides on 100/80-17 front tubeless and 140/60R-17 radial tubeless rear tyres. A single-channel ABS should be offered as standard as well.
