2019 Maruti Eeco gets compulsory safety features like driver side airbags, ABS and speed warning system to meet the new safety norms
Earlier this month, we came up with the exclusive pictures of the updated Eeco, which gets new safety features to comply with the upcoming safety norms that will come into effect from July 2019. It also comes with a new steering wheel housing the standard driver-side airbag. This is the same steering wheel that is even found on the Maruti Alto 800.
The 2019 Maruti Eeco has even received other safety features that will be mandated by the new safety forms. This is a welcoming move as the introduction of the new features is sure to make the bare-basic MUV safer. It is priced at Rs. 3.51 lakh for the entry-level five-seater and it goes all the way up to Rs.6.53 lakh for the Ambulance version (both prices, ex-showroom).
Other than a driver side airbag, the 2019 Maruti Eeco gets Anti-lock Brakes, seatbelt reminder, speed alert and reverse parking sensors. The updated vehicle even comes with a cup holder. This is the first ever major upgrade for the Versa-based van, which debuted almost a decade ago at the 2010 Auto Expo.

The Maruti Eeco continues to be powered from a 1.2-litre inline four-cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 73 bhp and a peak torque of 101 Nm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the front wheels. It is also available in a CNG version that is capable of offering a mileage of 16.2 km/kg.
The Maruti Eeco can be viewed as a spiritual successor to the Omni, which is being discontinued as it can’t be upgraded to comply with the BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program) norms.
Instead, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco should appeal to all the prospective customers of the Omni as it’s more modern and now, even safer than before. Later on, the company will even update the Eeco with a stronger body shell to meet the full-frontal impact, off-set-frontal impact and side impact crash tests.
