2019 Hyundai Sonata marks the debut of the company’s ‘New Era’ theme for the event in China, India launch expected anytime soon

The new 2019 Hyundai Sonata has debuted at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2019. The new sedan is one of the handfuls of models that spearhead the company’s ‘New Era’ theme for this year’s motor show in Shanghai. The new car also marks the debut of the company’s new Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy.

Making its Chinese debut at the auto show, the 2019 Hyundai Sonata has awed the show-goers with its bold new design, a range of high-tech safety and connectivity features, and a long list of convenience-enhancing technologies. The globally renowned premium sedan impresses with its bold styling and the curvaceous coupe-like roofline.

In the words of the company, the 2019 Hyundai Sonata portrays the company’s Sensuous Sportiness design language through its ‘elegance and flowing lines, using light as the defining styling feature inside and out.’

Basically, the 2019 Hyundai Sonata takes visual inspiration from the award-winning Le Fil Rouge concept, which was first showcased at the last year’s Geneva International Motor Show. Akin to the concept, the new sedan features several taut surfaces, bold creases and a sporty look.

The 2019 Hyundai Sonata not only looks sportier than its predecessor but is even a bit larger. Compared to the previous generation, it is 45 mm longer, 25 mm wider but sits 30 mm lower. Its wheelbase is longer by 35 mm. While the powertrain options aren’t known at the moment, what’s been told is that the sedan is underpinned by the same lightweight architecture that was revealed through Hyundai’s HDC-2 concept car at the Busan Motor Show in June last year.

Speaking on the design of the 2019 Hyundai Sonata, Sang Yup Lee, senior vice president and head of the Hyundai Design Center said, “Sonata celebrates innovative coupe-like silhouette. A short overhang, sloping roofline and low deck lid create a balanced feel, and Hyundai’s signature chrome accent now goes all the way into the hood, making it look even longer. It also has LED lighting built in. These cues bring the Sensuous Sportiness design to life.”
