2018 Volkswagen Up GTi Becomes More Powerful with 115 HP Engine

2018 Volkswagen Up GTi will compete against Fiat 500 Abarth and Vauxhaull Adam S; will go on sale from early next year internationally

Volkswagen has revealed the new Up GTi with a more powerful engine. The new Volkswagen Up GTi is expected to go on sale from early next year and upon launch, it will lock horns with rivals like Fiat 500 Abarth and Vauxhall Adam S. In order to improve the driving dynamics and performance of the car, the German auto major has revised the suspension and improved the aerodynamics as well.

The Volkswagen Up GTi comes carrying the first Golf GTi’s sprit, but it is more powerful, much lightweight, gets greater downforce. The German auto major claims that this vehicle is going to a crucial role in the company’s future range of powerful GTi models. Apart from the power, Volkswagen has improved the handling capability of this vehicle as well.

In terms of design changes, it received a new front bumper with extra cooling vents, updated round shaped fog lamps with cornering light. The honeycomb grille, horizontal red strip between the headlamps, glossy black ORVM caps, 17-inch Brands Hatch design sporty alloy wheels with red painted brake calipers enhance the visual appeal of this car.

It will be available in five different exterior colour options – Dark Silver, Black Pearl, Pure White, Tornado Red and Costa Azul. Inside the cabin, Volkswagen Up GTi gets a multi-function sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, black roof liner, red pixel trim on dashboard, red contrast stitching on steering wheel, seat and upholstery. Apart from that, it also features heated seats, an infotainment system with 6-speaker audio system etc.

The upcoming Volkswagen Up GTi gets power from a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder, direct-injection petrol engine under the hood. This engine is capable of churning out 115 hp of peak power and 199 Nm of peak torque generated between 2,000 rpm and 3,500 rpm. There is an engine start/Stop function and energy recuperation system as well. Transmission duty is done by a 6-speed manual gearbox.

In terms of performance, the upcoming Volkswagen Up GTi is capable of accelerating 0 – 100 kmph in just 8.8 seconds at a top speed of 196 kmph. It will be available in both three-door and five-door variants.
