2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 will likely be brought into the country via CBU route; features an updated 1,215 cc in-line, three-cylinder engine making 141 PS

Triumph Motorcycles India is expected to launch the new Tiger 1200 in the coming months and it could become the first launch from the British brand in the upcoming financial year. The top-of-the-line adventure motorcycle has received high reputation in the global markets and it will enter India to compete against some of the lethal challengers on offer like Ducati Multistrada 1260 and BMW R 1200GS.

It possesses a number of key differences compared to the recently launched Tiger 800 a few days ago. It will not be a locally assembled model like its smaller sibling, as it will be imported via CBU channel. It goes on to say that the range-topper will be priced substantially higher than the Tiger 800.

In foreign markets, the model is retailed in six variants and we are not sure yet whether all of them will be offered here or not. We can expect the prices to start at around Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the XR version and the fully-loaded XC could be sold at around Rs. 21 lakh (ex-showroom).

Reports emerged on the internet suggested that the pre-orders for the Tiger 1200 have commenced already in India across Triumph dealerships in the country. Let us get right in and see what the new model has to offer: First thing is first, the upcoming model has the Explorer name removed and it is simply called Tiger 1200.

The 2018 Triumph 1200 comprises of cosmetic and mechanical modifications as well as other suite of comfort bids for adventure and long rides. It derives power from a 1,215 cc in-line three-cylinder engine, which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 141 PS at 9,350 rpm and 122 Nm of peak torque delivered at 7,600 rpm.

It is mated to a six-speed transmission. The 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 is the third launch from the brand this year following Bonneville Speedmaster and Tiger 800.
