2018 Toyota Century Is Japan’s Take On A Flagship Rolls Royce Sedan

Toyota’s JDM flagship model gets several modern features and technologies; carries retro styling

Toyota Century has been the flagship model from the brand in Japanese market for last 40 years. Now, the automaker has introduced an all-new exclusive version of this car that comes carrying the retro styling and blends it with several advanced modern features. The premium sedan has been unveiled at the ongoing 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

It was originally named for the 100th birthday of the company’s founder, Sakichi Toyoda. Up front, this sedan gets a Rolls Royce Phantom like styling. The rectangular headlamps get adaptive LED projector lamps with LED daytime running lights. The large front grille boasts extensive chrome garnishing. There are two sleek horizontally positioned LED stripes positioned at each side of the bumper. The long hood, large multi-spoke wheels, flat roof, wide LED taillights enhance its visual appeal further.

Dimensionally, the 2018 Toyota Century has become larger, wider and taller. The wheelbase too has been increased to offer more comfort for the occupants. It measures 5,335 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, 1,505 mm in height and it has a wheelbase of 3,090 mm. Not only at exterior, inside the cabin also the 2018 Toyota Century comes offering a suave premium vibe.

The multifunction steering wheel wrapped with premium leather, large instrument cluster with digital display, a large touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console flanked by AC vents, premium wood trim on dashboard and doors enhance the style and luxuriousness further. Thanks to the additional length and wheelbase, the sedan comes more space inside the cabin.

There are plush individual rear seats with generous leg space. The rear occupants get a wide armrest and a separate infotainment system with a large touchscreen. Toyota has equipped the cabin with a 20-speaker premium audio system. Other features include reading light, writing table, leather and wool upholstery.

Toyota claims this sedan gets specially tuned suspension in order to offer premium quality ride experience. Apart from that, it also gets new tyres that increase ride comfort and reduce the road vibration offering smoother ride experience. The car gets Safety Sense P driver assistive system as well. Power comes from a 5.0-litre V8 engine combined with an electric motor. However, the power and torque output of this hybrid powertrain are yet to be disclosed.
