All-new Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo is a sporty take on station wagon; comes sporting a ‘Shooting Brake’ style

Porsche launched the all-new generation of the Panamera Sport Turismo at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. It is the German luxury brand’s take on station wagon with several ‘first’ things. The Panamera Sport Turismo looks very much identical to the previous model. But what makes the new model significantly distinctive is the ‘Shooting Brake’ style.

It appears more than five years after being previewed through a concept. The car has been made available in five different variants – Panamera 4, Panamera 4S, Panamera 4S Diesel, Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo, with pricing expected to be ranging between $96,200 and $154,000 internationally.

Porsche wanted the newly introduced 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo to be a practical and utilitarian model instead of a luxury car and it truly looks very elegant. Thanks to the ‘Shooting Brake’ style roofline, the luxury station wagon will be able to afford an impressive 520-litre of luggage capacity, which can be expanded up to 1,390-litre with the rear seats folded down. Also, the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo comes as the first variant of the Panamera lineup to offer a three-occupant seating at rear and this makes the car a five-seater model.

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo comes with couple of ‘first’ things to offer, which include a variable rear spoiler. This is capable of changing position to enhance the aerodynamic efficiency and reduce wind noise, depending on the Panamera Sport Turismo’s speed. The automaker claims, that Panamera Sport Turismo is the first car to have this system into the roof, compared to the boot in several other models like its regular sibling.

Except the Turbo variant, all the four versions are powered by V6 engine globally. The Sport Turismo has been priced at Rs. 2.08 crore (ex-showroom) in India ahead of its launch next month. It is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin turbocharged V8 petrol engine that kicks out 542 bhp of peak power between 5,750 and 6,000 rpm and 770 Nm of torque from 1,960 to 4,500 rpm.

It is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission driving all the four wheels. It is claimed to accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 304 kmph.
