Porsche launched the third generation Cayenne in India and it is available in three variants – Standard, E-Hybrid and Turbo

Porsche has officially launched the third generation Cayenne in India and the global debut took place at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Cayenne range includes three models – standard, E-Hybrid and Turbo. The Standard model is priced at Rs. 1.19 Crore, E-Hybrid at Rs. 1.58 Crore and the flagship Turbo variant at Rs. 1.92 Crore (All Prices, Ex-Showroom Delhi).

The bookings for the new model started earlier this year and the company has revealed that the initial batch has been already sold out, which shows the popularity of Cayenne in India. The new generation Cayenne gets an evolutionary design theme and the SUV looks sharper thanks to minor tweaks in front and rear body panels.

The Cayenne comes with new Porsche Dynamic Light System or LED Matrix Beam for the headlight and rear also get LED tail lamp with dynamic turn indicators. The company has increased length by 7 cm to 4.92 m in length but it doesn’t translate to interior space as the wheelbase continues to be the same from the current model.

The improvements have helped the company to increase boot space by 15 per cent compared to the earlier model. The third generation model is 60 kg lighter than its predecessor thanks to the extensive use of aluminium for body panels and internal components. The interior continues the same design theme from the previous model with black and beige colour theme.

The centre console gets a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and it comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but the centre console has lots of buttons which is not seen in new generation models. The instrument cluster gets analogue tachometer on the centre with two 7-inch screens also.

The Standard variant of Cayenne is powered by 3.0 L single turbocharged V6 engine producing 335 bhp and 450 Nm, the S model gets a 2.9 L twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 433 bhp and 550 Nm. The Turbo model comes with 4.0 L Bi-Turbo V8 engine producing 542 bhp and 700 Nm. The E-Hybrid variant is powered by a 3.0 L V6 engine with an electric motor and the combined output is 462 hp and 700 Nm.

These engines are mated to new 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox and the company has given four modes – Mud, Gravel, Sand and Rock. The E-hybrid variant can hit 100 kph from standstill in 5 sec and top speed is 253 kph. Porsche has also made some changes for chassis to improve handling and the front axle gets a separated link design.  The Cayenne competes against Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Toyota Land Cruiser.
