2018 Nissan Micra gets Dual Airbags, Speed-sensing Door Lock and Driver Seat Belt Reminder as standard across the range
Nissan’s India division has announced the launch of what has been said as a “More Intelligent and More Sporty variant” of its Micra hatchback today. The Japanese manufacturer claims that the addition of new features has made the Micra the “best value-for-money” proposition in its segment. Available at a starting price of Rs. 5.03 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Active version, the updated Micra is stated to offer more interactive driving experience.
The 2018 Nissan Micra costs Rs. 6.19 lakh and it goes all the way up to Rs 7.90 lakh, and the 2018 Micra Active top-end is priced at Rs 5.98 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). The exterior remains similar to the previous model but the cabin has received orange accents to the dashboard, seats and armrests. Apart from the 3-year extended warranty programme, the Micra Fashion Edition is now sold with continuously variable transmission (CVT) for price of Rs. 6.19 lakh (ex-showroom).
The 2018 Nissan Micra comes equipped with enhanced safety features courtesy of the dual front airbags, driver seat belt reminder, speed warning device and speed sensing door lock function for safer drive as standard equipment across the range. It also gains built-in 6.2-inch touchscreen AVN system, reverse parking sensor, phone mirroring, electrically adjustable turn indicators on rear view mirrors and reverse parking camera among other technologies.
The company also provides NissanConnect, an in-car connected facility for the better safety and navigation purposes. The significant features include curfew alert, nearby pit stops, Locate My Car and Share My Car Location address, geo-fencing and speed alert. Moreover, keyless entry and push button stop/start through intelligent Key, and ‘Lead Me to Car’ that guides passengers to their cars whilst caught in congested parking spaces are other additions.
The Nissan Micra is offered in seven different colour options as before: Onyx Black, Brick Red, Blade Silver, Storm White, Turquoise Blue, Sunshine Orange and Night Shade. Nissan has not made any powertrain changes to the Micra as it remains unaltered since its inception in India. It is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
The former is good enough to generate 76 bhp and 104 Nm, while the latter produces 64 bhp and 160 Nm. The X-Tronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is retailed only with the petrol engine, making the Micra the most affordable CVT-equipped model in India. The 1.5-litre diesel, on the other hand, is paired to a five-speed manual transmission, and it is claimed to return ARAI-certified 23.08 kmpl. The petrol MT Micra Active variant returns 19.49 kmpl and the CVT has fuel economy of 19.34 kmpl.
