2018 Modenas Dominar 400 follows the launch of V15, NS200 and RS200 in Malaysia; has similar specifications as the model sold in India
The 2018 Modenas Dominar 400 has finally been launched in Malaysia for an introductory price of RM 14,615 (including GTS but without road tax, registration and insurance). It is the Modenas’ flagship bike in the market and gets manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s facility in Pune. It is part of the joint venture between Bajaj and Modenas that already yielded products such as the V15, NS200 and RS200.
Modenas retailed more than 41,800 motorcycles last fiscal with the Pulsar and V15 contributing to 11 percent of total sales. The Dominar 400 cruiser currently made available in Malaysia has similar specifications compared to the version sold in India. Debuting back in December 2016, the Dominar 400 has had a fair amount of sales success despite being a Value For Money offering compared to its rivals by a big margin.

Bajaj targeted the market share of entry-level Royal Enfields but it could not meet the desired sales volume. Observing its potential in overseas markets, Bajaj is shipping the D400 to neighboring countries that include Malaysia. It derives power from the single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected 373 cc engine used in the KTM Duke 390.
While the Duke 390 is performance-based, the engine in the D400 is tuned for touring as it produces 35 PS maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 35 Nm peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission. Built on a beam type perimeter frame, the D400 comes equipped with dual-channel ABS and slipper clutch.
It uses 320 mm dual-piston caliper up front and 230 mm single-piston caliper at the rear while the suspension duties are performed by 43 mm telescopic front fork and pre-load adjustable rear monoshock. It also features LCD instrument panel, LED headlamp, LED tail lamp and LED turn indicators. The Modenas D400 tips the weighing scale at 182 kilograms and has two year or 24,000 km warranty along with a stubby fuel tank with 13 litres capacity.
