With exterior updates, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 uses the same 2.0L turbo engine as its CLA 45 cousin; gets an optional designo MAGNO exclusive paintwork
As part of celebrating half a century of creating performance driven cars, Mercedes-AMG rolled out two new models for the domestic luxury market last week. One was the facelifted CLA 45 4MATIC and the other was none other than its SUV cousin, the GLA 45 4MATIC. In a similar fashion to the sedan, the 2018 GLA 45 spawned an ‘Aero Edition’ in addition with several exterior updates under the ‘Designo’ customisation unit.
The new Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4MATIC comes with a raft of changes on the outside. They include the signature twinblade radiator grille finished in silver chrome, front splitter insert in silver chrome, flics in high gloss black for greater airflow especially for engine cooling purpose, restyled front apron and sporty louvers in the triple air inlets.

Other main design attractions are LED headlamps, a brand new AMG spoiler lip for improved aerodynamics and reduced lift at the rear axle according to Mercedes. This is claimed to aid in better driving stability of the new GLA 45. Stepping inside the cabin, the dashboard is finished in man-made ARTICO leather while the exclusivity in underlined by the red top-stitching.
As identical to the upgraded CLA 45 4MATIC, the powertrain is just the same with the 1,991 cc four-cylinder turbocharged engine working under the engine bay. It is good enough to generate a maximum power output of 375 hp at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 475 Nm from 2,250 to 5,000 rpm. Power is transferred to all the four wheels through a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic ‘box.

Despite having similar top speed of 250 kmph as the CLA 45, the obviously additional kerb weight meant the standstill to 100 kmph acceleration time is dealt in 4.4 seconds – a couple of tenths slower than the sedan cousin. AMG engineers have worked their way into making the GLA 45 a visual crowd pleaser amidst bettering the aerodynamic performance.
It comprises of interior design trim in black and red, updated instrument cluster with fresh looking numerals and scale divided into 30 kmph increments along with new chrome border around gear indicator display. Also coming in standard are the 18-inch AMG 10-spoke light alloy wheels painted in titanium gray and has a high sheen finish.
Last but not the least, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4MATIC Aero Edition features yellow decals, AMG sports stripes in matt graphite grey combined with AMG Night Package for select paint jobs, yellow highlights along side sill panels, rear bumper, diffuser and mirror housings. Optionally, AMG is offering an exclusive colour scheme as well.
The ‘Designo MAGNO’ comes with special paint finishes by blending metallic colour with silk matt finish. The paintwork has high quality pigments for lending an individual character according to Mercedes. The 2018 GLA 45 is priced at Rs. 77.85 lakh while the Aero Edition carries a sticker price of Rs. 80.67 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom pan India).
