2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz adorns several cosmetic updates and gets a new fuel-efficient 1.5-litre SHVS petrol engine
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) will be launching its most comprehensive facelift of the year this month as the Ciaz has been teased ahead of its debut. The Ciaz has a new competitor to deal with on its new iteration as Toyota recently introduced the Yaris – turning the fight for supremacy into a four-way battle with Honda City and Hyundai Verna being the other two.
The updated Maruti Suzuki Ciaz gains a number of changes on the exterior as well as interior with expected feature additions. As evident from the official teaser images and the slew of spy pictures we brought you earlier, the revisions indeed make the C-segment sedan modern and more upmarket than the outgoing version.
What you would instantly note is the four-slat grille being ditched in favour of a new treatment with chrome bordering. The headlamps have become sleeker with integrated LED strip while the sharper bumper section with restyled fog lamp housing adds a sporty demeanour. With no extensive change to the side profile, the rear end is slightly repackaged.
On the inside, the faux wooden insert rich dashboard completes the black and beige colour theme, along with touchscreen infotainment system enabling Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the top-end versions, cruise control, multi zone climate control, cruise control, new instrument binnacle, probable sunroof, etc. The mechanical modifications accompanying the cosmetic updates are another highlight.
The long-standing 1.4-litre K14B petrol engine is replaced by a newly-developed 1.5-litre K15B unit. The four-cylinder naturally-aspirated SHVS is good enough to produce 104 hp at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm – 12 hp and 8 Nm more than the outgoing motor. The transmission options continue to be a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic.
On the other hand, the 1.3-litre diesel is likely to stay put making 89 hp at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1,750 rpm and comes mated to a five-speed manual ‘box. We do not expect big price hike on the updated Ciaz though as it will continue to be priced around Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the new Ciaz sometime next month.
