2018 Jaguar XJ range gets host of technology and safety updates along with the new XJR575 that can do 0-100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds
As earlier reported, Jaguar is not dumping the XJ sedan and instead introduced a brand new updated version much to the delight of the enthusiasts. The bookings for the 2018 Jaguar XJ have opened in the UK with a starting price of £59,995 (Rs. 50.60 lakh).
First thing is first, the performance flagship model will be the XJR575 which is good enough to deliver a maximum power output of 575 PS and 700 Nm of peak torque. It uses a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine uprated to make 25 PS in addition compared to the previous model.
Due to the increase in performance, the sports sedan can now hit 100 kmph from 0 in just 4.4 seconds before topping out 300 kmph. It is just a tenth slower compared to the V12 powered Merc AMG S65 while the BMW 760Li xDrive is still the fastest. It will be sold in two colour options namely Satin Corris Grey and Velocity Blue – both in standard wheelbase configurations.
Jaguar has added several visual tweaks to the new XJR575 including the 20-inch Farallon glossy black wheels, new rear spoiler, XJR575 badging, revised front bumper and lower air inlets along with modified bonnet louvers and side sills. On the inside, it gets 575 embossed tread plates, 575 intaglio, diamond quilted seats in either Ivory/Jet or Jet/Jet finish.
Alongside revealing a new range-topping luxury sedan in the XJ range, Jaguar has made some upgrades to other models in the lineup as well such as bigger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with pinch and zoom function and 4G Wi-Fi connectivity. Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Traffic Detection, Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitor come as part of the brand’s latest intelligent safety features.
The Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection operates between 5 kmph and 60 kmph using a digital camera to detect hazards in front and apply brakes if needed in case of unavoidable collision.
