The CR-V comes with the most efficient diesel engine in its class, will be the only SUV to get a 9-speed automatic transmission in its segment

Honda is going to launch the new generation of CR-V on October 9th in India. Even though most of the specifications of CR-V have been revealed, the company is yet to reveal fuel efficiency figures but now it has been leaked. The CR-V is available with both diesel and petrol engines with four-wheel drive system available only with the former.

One of the negatives of previous CR-V is that the SUV drinks lots of fuel especially with the 2.4 L engine configuration but it won’t be offered in the new model. The 156 hp 2.0 L i-VTEC engine with CVT automatic transmission returns 14.1 kmpl, which is an increase of 0.4 kmpl compared to the outgoing model. The new 1.6 L i-DTEC engine with 120 hp and CVT gearbox returns 18.6 kmpl.

When compared to rivals, CR-V comes with the most efficient diesel engine in its class and until the Compass diesel auto arrives, the Honda will be the only model to get 9-speed automatic transmission also. The Compass is available with 1.4 L petrol and 2.0 L diesel engines with a manual gearbox as a standard option and automatic transmission is available with a petrol engine only.

The petrol manual model of Compass gives 14.3 kmpl and 14.1 kmpl with an automatic gearbox. The diesel manual with two-wheel drive returns 17.1 kmpl and 16.3 kmpl for the all-wheel-drive version. We can expect the upcoming diesel automatic model to come with almost same efficiency as manual version.

The company didn’t specify fuel efficiency of four-wheel drive model.

Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan are powered by same 2.0 L diesel engine with 7 speed DSG gearbox, but this engine in Skoda produces 150 hp and 143 hp in Tiguan.  The less powerful Tiguan gives 17.06 kmpl and 16.25 kmpl for Kodiaq. The Outlander comes only with a 167 hp 2.4-litre engine and it returns 10.2 kmpl.
